Here There….Nom Noms Everywhere!

Wow!  It’s April already next week.  I can’t believe how fast the year is going and how much fun I am having baking at Nom Nom Treats!

I want to thank all my clients who hired Nom Nom Treats to represent there event/brand/company. I think it fantastic to see companies give their clients a yummy treat while branding themselves through us. Here is short recap of some of the awesome events you might have seen us at!

Project Macfrica was held at the Museum on Saturday February 18th.  It was a great event that raised over $8000.  I wish Matt and his crew a safe and rewarding trip.  I can’t wait to hear all about when they get back.

Ignite Waterloo was held at The Waterloo Region Museum on Febuary 28th.  If you attended this inspiring event, you might

Burger badanga 2012 held at the Chainsaw on February 29th raised over $2750.00 for Habitat for Humanity in Waterloo .  It was so much fun making these cookies and watching how fast everyone devoured them.  I must say that I had a hard time deciding which burger was the best…they were ALL so good!have had the chance to enjoy one of my yummy branded chocolates:)

BrandTannery –  I had the pleasure of representing the brandTannery’s Launch on March 7th.  Talk about being honoured that this great “branding company” would pick me to showcase there new concept.

TedX Waterloo - Just this past week my cookies went fast at the TedX waterloo event held at the Centre in the square.  It was so cool to see my product representing such an amazing event that inspired over 1000+ people in our community!

BrandTannery Launch – A great community

I love this community.  I can’t say it enough.  Wednesday night at the BrandTanny launch was just another example of how great it is to live in KW.  It was inspiring to be in a room with 100+  people who have created their own destiny.  Ok – so I might be getting a little dramatic here.  Honestly – it’s true….everyone has the power to take that moment where they feel something can be done better – and do it.  The problem is – not everyone does. It was great to listen to AJ Mueller, Hilary Abel and Dan Silivestru share their “ah ha” moments with the crowd and get us all inspired to make a difference.  Weather it’s tying to solve a problem in their industry or make our community a better place to live, these three “heros” (as my son says) took that challenge and changed the way we live. I know that one of those heros changes my life everyday and I am so grateful for his inspiration;)

That is one of the reasons why I created Nom Nom Treats.  As a past founder in a small tech startup we never had the funds to purchase cool swag, but I soooo wanted some.  Let’s face it – who doesn’t love a cool treat?  Just last month my hubby was in Europe at a developer convention and skpyed me to tell me he got the coolest pocket knife from Cloud9 IDE as swag!  I can remember making my own chocolate swag to give away at the Communitech Tech Leadership Conference.  Everyone loved them.  I couldn’t believe it (well yes I could – that’s why I wanted them).  People kept coming over to our booth just to grab a bag of my yummy hippo chocolates.  And that’s when I realized we had not only made people happy – we had their attention.

OK – so I’m not changing the world here, but I am trying to change they way we interact with one another.  It’s time to get personal and make others happy:)

Thanks @BrandTannery for reminding me why I do what I do….and why I love to do it:)  I can’t wait to see all the amazing adventures that come your way.

Project Macfrica

This Saturday February 18th at 8:00 pm Macfrica is holding a charity night at THEMUSEUM. Project Macfrica was founded in 2009 by Matt Scobel.  I had the pleasure of listening to Matt speak at Ignite Waterloo last year about his first trip to Africa and I was definetly inspired.

“Project Macfrica computer labs feature used Macs donated by businesses or individuals for use in Africa. They are pre-loaded with educational software, games and creative tools, managed remotely by Apple Certified Support Professionals, and connected to both other computer labs in Africa and donors back in North America. These labs offer incredible educational opportunities for the students that use them and help connect the children and educators of Africa.”  You can find out more information about Project Macfrica on Facebook.

Nom Nom Treats is excited to be apart of this great charity. If you would like to show your support, you can purchase a ticket here for the event.

A Paleo Choice

OK so I’m finding that many people keep asking me if it is true that I have never had one of my cookies. Well…. yes this is true (sort of).  I can say truthfully that I have never eaten one since I opened the door at Nom Nom Treats. In fact, I have not eaten one for quite a while, but don’t be sad for me because I eat cookies (and chocolates) all the time.

I thought I would share one of my favourite (semi) paleo chocolate chip cookies recipes with you.  Try it out and tell me what you think – or place an order with me:)

Pj’s (semi) Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

  • 2.5 cups Almond flour
  • 1 egg (optional – if you choose this, please add 1/4 cup almond flour)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup of agave nectar or  raw honey (sometime I will combine 1/4 maple syrup and 1/4 cup honey)
  • 1/4 cup of grapeseed oil ( if you prefer to use  melted butter add 1 tbsp)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips – I use 70% + dark chocolate

Mix all dry ingredients together and wet separately.  Then mix together.  Heat oven to 325 degrees.  Cook for 8-10 minutes.  This recipe makes approximately 18 cookies. Cool and enjoy!

Please note that I can add a these cookies to any order!

For a good cause

One of the things I love about the community here in Kitchener-Waterloo is the amount of caring and effort individuals and companies invest in local charities, programs and non-profit organizations. I too love to help out with many local causes and having started Nom Nom Treats is no reason to stop. As a matter of fact, cookies, in my humble opinion, seem to be a great compliment to most of these wonderful initiatives.

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of helping some great causes locally:

This past November I had a very gratifying experience working with a hard working bunch for Movember Canada.  It was amazing to see how many hours and planning went into all the events that occurred around KW during the month…. and all these were volunteered!  Canada raised over 40Million dollars to this great cause! You might have seen me, or one of my cookies at the Movember Ball held at THEMUSEUM - if not – look for me next year when we do it all again!

If you don’t already read RQ Magazine - than you should.  I had the pleasure of donating a few cookies to Hilary’s Bottles for Beans fund-raiser this past December, where she raised over $1000.00 to our local food bank. Hilary is always doing great things for our community, I can’t wait to see whats she is up to next :)

To end the year off, I donated some fun cookies to a local technology group called Mobeers.  They held a meet-up at the Jazz room in uptown Waterloo in December and I had the pleasure to attend and listen to some great local speakers. I know they enjoyed the cookies as they were all gone before all the wings and beer:)  Look for them again…. and my cookies this April 2012.

Have a local cause or charity that you are passionate about?  Need some help making it awesome (for free)? Give me a shout as I am always looking to help make KW an awesome place to live :)
